As the holiday season is coming up on us I find I get invited to more and more events and parties. I don't know about you but I was brought up being told that you should always bring something with you, whether it be a bottle of wine, and appetizer, or a sweet treat. For me a lot of these events come up last minute and I am always looking for a quick and easy something to bring. I personally do not drink, so I tend to go for a sweeter approach. In comes Pinterest, I can always count on Pinterest to help me out when I need a gift or recipe. This week I came across a new and creative Jello Meringue recipe. Although this dessert looks complicated, it is actually one of the easiest ones i've ever made. This recipe only calls for 5 ingredients and most you would already have at home! There are a few supplies that you will need to create this recipe:
If you do not have an electric mixer you can whisk it by hand but It will take a lot longer. I know most people don't have piping bags just laying around and these are not mandatory, you can use a spoon to make small mounds as well but the shape of the meringues may not be as flattering (Click here to see what they might look like without piping bag). If you would like to use a piping bag but have no idea were to look for them or what to buy I would suggest looking at your local craft store, like Michael's or A.C. Moore. I buy the Wilton Brand 12in. Disposable Decorating Bags, in the 12 count, Which are $4.99 at my local Michael's. For the piping tip I use the Wilton Tip #32, and to secure the tip in place I picked up the Tip Coupler, both are priced at $0.99. (Pictured below) Now to get into the actual recipe...
Ingredients:
First things first, Preheat the oven to 250 degrees fahrenheit, and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Sometimes it can be hard to tell when they are done, I look for slight browning and a slight cracking. If you are still unsure you can just pull one of the tray in the oven and if it is at all gooey inside it needs more time. I found that this recipe makes between 40-60 cookies depending on the size, but don't worry about having too many because they won't last very long! I hope my experiences with this recipe help you create great treats to share, let me know how your meringues came out!
